What's in a Logo?

"What's the story behind your brand? How do you present yourself as a small business? What does your logo say about you?" These are all questions I was asked when I found myself re-launching Flora by Laura after working full time for three years at another florist.

Questions like this can be slightly overwhelming...how do you choose to present your business in a way that appeals to everyone? How do I re-brand Flora by Laura to reflect my current floristry style and who I am as a person?

My idea came to me at a gorgeous chateau in the Burgundy region of France. I found myself in the gardens at Parc du Chateau de Digoine admiring this STUNNING glasshouse and there it was - inspiration for my logo. Some might know I studied History at university before I trained as a florist. My dissertation focused on Victorian women and Botany and so I spent a lot of time researching glasshouses and Wardian Cases.

I have always had a deep fascination with historical glasshouses, greenhouses (big and small) and orangeries and I thought "why not reflect this in my logo?"

I was lucky enough to have a brilliant branding company design my logo and incorporate my love for glasshouses and my favourite flower - the freesia.

Some people might argue that it shouldn't be that deep and to just pick a logo that looks visually appealling. I think that logos and branding should reflect who you are because after all, we pour such a huge part of ourselves into our business and making it work.

Spotlight On - Gorgeous Boho Wedding - Charlotte & Will, September 2023, The Old Rectory House, Private Hire and Wedding Venue.

Take a stroll with us back to September 2023 and enjoy our blog post showcasing the gorgeous boho wedding of Charlotte and Will at The Old Rectory House.

Let's just say, my imagination was running wild after my initial bridal consultation with Charlotte over coffee in Worcestershire.

Talk of dried flowers, pampas, proteas, thistles, feathers and botanically dyed silk ribbon had me hooked.

Charlotte had a vision for her wedding florals and I was ready to roll with it.

Let's begin with the bouquet and what a bouquet it was! The brief was oversized & impactful to include proteas & pampas grass in whites, creams & rust/burnt orange.

We nestled pops of boho burnt orange and stunning whites amongst pampas grass from Cornwall and other dried grasses and textures.

Roses and dahlias featured but show-stopping "Snow Leopard" Proteas were the main event. These large-headed proteas have a soft texture, which worked perfectly against the other textures in the bouquet.

We also included eryngium thistle to reflect Charlotte & Will's love of Scotland as well as pheasant feathers (responsibly sourced) as an added boho feature and to hint to countryside holiday memories shared by the couple. Will's buttonhole featured thistle and a pheasant feather to tie the two designs together.

Charlotte also dreamed of stunning tails of botanically dyed silk & chiffon ribbons in rust & burnt orange. We finished the bouquet with lengths of rust and orange ribbon, which trailed elegantly and flowed in the wind.

This bouquet was arranged into a bespoke cage to keep its stability and make it easier for Charlotte to hold. This is a floristry technique used when bouquets are large and need extra support. You know what they say: "Go BIG or go home!"

For her maids, Charlotte opted for upright pampas and dried flower sheafs. These lightweight sheafs were used cleverly in the photography photos and complimented the bridesmaids' dresses beautifully.

Let's also take a moment for these wonderfully captured moments by Pixie Jayne Photography.
